What Happens When Women Fish Together

A few years ago I attended a Women’s Leadership Retreat hosted by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. It was a weekend focused on women in the outdoors, and it sparked a simple idea.

Why weren’t more women fly fishing together?

I had mostly taught myself how to fly fish, with a little help from some generous anglers from the Dame Juliana Fly Fishing Club in Kimberton, Pennsylvania back in 2012. But most of the time when I stood in a river, I noticed something ..there were very few women out there.

After moving back to my hometown of Newville in South Central Pennsylvania, I realized how lucky we are to live near so many incredible rivers and streams. From limestone creeks to bass water and wild trout fisheries, this region is full of opportunities to get outside and fish.

That’s when the idea for PA Reel Sisters began.

What if women had a place to learn fly fishing together in a welcoming and supportive environment? A place where beginners felt comfortable, experienced anglers could share what they know, and everyone could enjoy time on the water.

When women fish together, something special happens. There’s laughter when the line tangles, encouragement when someone lands their first fish, and a sense of confidence that grows with every cast.

PA Reel Sisters is about more than fishing. It’s about building friendships, exploring beautiful rivers, and creating a community where women support each other and feel at home on the water.

Sometimes the most incredible journeys begin with a single cast.
